Tundra

The wide, treeless tundra biome is known for its incredibly low temperatures, limited growth season, and poor biodiversity. It is usually found in high mountainous areas and the Arctic Circle. Permafrost is the term for the often frozen ground. Small shrubs, lichens, and mosses are among the vegetation; they have evolved to withstand arid environments by developing specific traits like reduced growth forms and antifreeze proteins.
